New Spellbinders Shapeabilities Pendants Dies
We set ourselves the task of taking one of the fantastic new range of Spellbinder Shapeabilities Pendants Dies and using some simple techniques and limited materials to see what we could come up with. These dies have so much beautiful detail that it is easy to create some really effective projects with the minimum of fuss.
We used the In Spades Pendants set. We could have used the coordinating Borderabilities In Spades set as well but decided to see what we could do with just the Pendant set first. The set comprises four dies; one large pendant motif and three smaller dies that can each be used as a centrepiece for the large die or as individual pieces in their own right. There are so many cutouts in the shapes that you end up with a big pile of interesting shapes to play with or keep for future projects.

This is what we came up with:

For this card we started with an A5 cream card. We cut 8 heart shapes in white cardstock using one of the small centrepiece dies and taped the two pieces at the back to make a solid heart. We cut 8 more heart shapes in cream card and using Dovecraft Glue Squares Mini 200 layered the inner cream heart on the top of the white hearts. These were embellished with Ranger Liquid Pearls White Opal. The central flower was made by cutting another 4 hearts in pearlised card, using the outside pieces this time, and also cutting the cross shaped alternate centre piece and joining the pieces together with Dovecraft Glue Squares Mini 200. A 4mm Small Round Pearl Bead was placed in the centre. White satin ribbon was threaded through the centre piece and it was attached to a rectangle of pearlised card. This was attached to the main card using Dovecraft Easy Fix and the prepared hearts were added along the outside edges of the card as shown. Very simple, very quick and (we think) very pretty. |

This card could be recreated using any suitably sized blank card. Cut 3 large In Spades shapes using the centre piece die of your choice in situ, we chose the rectangle shaped one. The back shape was made by embossing in cream cardstock around the outside edge of the die and then manually cutting it out, thus giving a shape slightly bigger than the one cut by the die itself. The second layer was made by cutting and embossing in cream cardstock. The front shape was made cutting with embossing in white cardstock. We layered using Dovecraft Glue Squares Mini 200. The front shape was slightly decorated using Ranger Liquid Pearls White Opal and a 4mm Small Round Pearl Bead in the centre. With white satin ribbon on the side and a couple of inner pieces in mirror card from another cut, we have another simple yet effective result. |

This card was made using an ivory pearlised card as a base. Using the Spellbinder Shapeabilities Pendants - In Spades centre heart die piece we cut six heart shapes in white card. Using just the outer pieces we created a flower shape by joining them together with the bottoms of the hearts in the centre. We joined them using Dovecraft Glue Squares Mini 200 and a glue pen. Detail was added to the flower with Liquid Pearls White Opal and a 4mm Small Round Pearl Bead in the centre. The three heart shapes on the right edge were made the same way as for the first card and threaded on to some white satin ribbon. The centre piece was cut using the Sizzix Frame, Stamp Die (just the inner piece). Using Ranger Archival Jet Black Ink Pad and a stamp we had to hand, the wording was added. The ink pad was also used to edge the piece. |

For this last card we simply embossed on blue cardstock then cut out around the embossed image. We then embossed and cut using white cardstock and overlayed the two. The heart tag was created in the same way as the other cards and attached with a piece of white ribbon through a hole punched in the card. You could do something similar by stencilling through the die but we liked the way the blue card pushes up through the white. The effect is a bit like Wedgewood china. |
